I really want to touch on customer service and why it is very important in this industry. Customer service is defined as the support and assistance of a company or business that provides to its customers before, during, and after they buy or use its products or services. It can include a wide range of activities. Such as answering questions, finding solutions, resolving complaints, interacting with customers, addressing customers inquiries, and
ensuring overall satisfaction with the experience.

With society the way it is these days, by way of technology, customer service is something that is lost. It was once a way to communicate with love, care, and concern. But today we are not taking the time to communicate with our clients. Understanding their needs and wants. Being able to feel the passion for their desires for how they view themselves, knowing what service we can offer or words we can say to make them feel more
comfortable with want or think they want. We have apps so that they can make appointments. They never get to hear our voice and hear the knowledge in our voices we posses. As quiet as it is kept we can tell if a person would fit in with our clientele sometimes based on the conversation we have about the service or services to be rendered.

In the cosmetology industry today we prefer clients to book their appointments online with no communication. If we offer consultations, they are as much as a service. A consultation is customer service, meaning a service we offer to the customer. It gives you the opportunity to get to know the customers' wants and expectations and allows them to formerly get to know the professional who will be servicing them. This is the time for you to
reel in a new client and get them to see and hear just who you are and how compassionate you are for them and their situation. Please understand me, I am in no way saying that this service should be free, I am saying be mindful of your pricing.

Nowadays, when you go to order your food at some fast-food restaurants or even restaurants, you sit down, you scan the menu, and you order yourself. At the end of this meal, you pull your bill up by scanning. They then have the audacity to leave you an opportunity to leave a tip What are you leaving a tip for? For you being able to handle your whole meal except cooking it for yourself and delivering it to the table? This is how informal customer service is today. How many times have you walked in a store, and no one approached you or offered to help you find something? Or worse, they have not taken the time to know their inventory or where it is located.

Being a cosmetologist. It is a very intimate profession. Whether you are an esthetician or a hair stylist, a barber or a manicurist, you are near your client. Some clients are your clients of and for life. A lot of us have been with our clients longer than we have been with our spouses or even our children. There are instances in our lives, and profession, where we are invited to family functions, barbecues and events in our clients lives. Todays society has many broken people. People want to feel loved and that they matter. As cosmetologist, we have the opportunity To show care and concern for our clients. To allow them a safe place, a place for them to feel comfortable discussing whatever is on their minds or their hearts. At the same time, we have the opportunity to make them feel and look beautiful. So that they feel better about themselves that is why we got here. And this can go both ways. By us pouring into these clients, it can give us a sense of satisfaction and purpose. Not just the fact that we can create with our hands and skills, but the fact that we can help someone mentally, emotionally and sometimes financially by offering financial blessings through discounts.

The next time you are blessed with the opportunity to service a new client, take inventory on the customer service you offer and ask yourself are you building a forever clientele or are you trying to get paid and move on. Let us continue to be an industry that cares about our customers.
