Stephen Douglas Ellis, born on August 25, 1959, in Los Angeles, CA, grew up in a family deeply rooted in the haircare industry. Steve’s father, Fredrick “Good Fred" Ellis, was a licensed barber for over 40 years and it was at his father's barbershop, located in South Los Angeles, that he developed his love for barbering and cosmetology. Through running multiple successful businesses, Steve’s father taught him the importance of creating generational wealth and building a strong financial future. Steve considered it his responsibility to share his learned knowledge as well as his tips and tricks which he gained throughout his career with the next generation of barbers and cosmetologists. His creative pursuits extended to teaching cosmetology at several institutions, including Santa Monica College, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, El Camino College, Pasadena Community College, and Compton College.

In 2017, Steve launched an apprenticeship program for aspiring barbers and cosmetologists, helping them achieve successful careers in the beauty industry. As an educator and businessman, he also authored two influential books: "The Mindset of Acquiring Wealth: A Financial Guide for the Barber and Beauty Industry" (2021) and "The Mindset of Creating Good Habits and Goals: Building Your Focus and Drive to Be Your Best" (2023).

Steve Ellis, known in the beauty business as a driving force behind Untouchable Academy, was not only the owner but also a dedicated instructor. With years of industry experience and a passion for teaching, Steve ensured that every student at Untouchable Academy received the best guidance and mentorship. The Academy is committed to empowering aspiring professionals in the barbering and cosmetology industry with top-tier education and training, offering a comprehensive range of programs to help students thrive in this dynamic field. Steve was a staunch advocate for financial literacy in the cosmetology industry. Untouchable Academy's hands-on training programs are designed to prepare students for real-world challenges, providing invaluable practical experience for those pursuing barber or cosmetology licenses.

Later in his career, Mr. Ellis was diagnosed with ALS. Despite this, he remained an instrumental educator. When he could no longer teach his classes as he wished, he brought in other professionals to ensure his students continued to receive high-quality education. As the guidelines for cosmetology education evolved, Mr. Ellis was dedicated to ensuring his students were well-prepared for the future.

Mr. Steve Ellis is my industry hero because he was serious about cosmetology and covered every aspect of it. He was no gatekeeper and generously shared his secrets and successes, helping me understand the financial side of being a self-employed cosmetologist. His willingness to share his knowledge and extend himself to others has left a lasting impact on me. Although Mr. Ellis might be gone, he will never be forgotten. He has played a significant role in the beauty industry, and his legacy continues to inspire.
